Moody Bank Supports Texas Families as SNAP Benefits Are Suspended Amid Ongoing Government Shutdown

October 29, 2025

GALVESTON, TEXAS – As the federal government shutdown continues, officials have announced that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be suspended beginning November 1. In response, Moody Bank is stepping forward to support Texas families in need.

This week, Moody Bank announced a statewide initiative to donate to area food banks and community organizations across Texas, ensuring families have access to food and essential resources during this uncertain time.

Victor Pierson, President and CEO of Moody Bank, emphasized the bank’s long-standing commitment to supporting Texans through times of crisis:

“Since our founding in 1907, Moody Bank has stood with our communities through good times and bad,” said Pierson. “We recognize that the loss of SNAP benefits will place an enormous strain on families across our state. This is a moment for all of us—individuals, businesses, and institutions—to step up and help our neighbors. We’re proud to partner with local food banks that are working tirelessly to keep Texans fed.”

Moody Bank’s donations will support organizations including:

  • Austin: I Live Here I Give Here, African American You Harvest Foundation, Central Texas Food Bank
  • Galveston County: M.I. Lewis Service Center, St. Vincent’s House, Galveston County Food Bank
  • Harris/Fort Bend County: East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, Rise Against Hunger
  • Comal County: Bulverde Food Bank, SOS Food Bank

These partners are already reporting increased demand as families brace for the loss of federal food assistance.

Ryan Coaxum, Senior Vice President of Community Development and External Affairs, noted that this initiative reflects Moody Bank’s mission of community service:

“At Moody Bank, we’re rooted in community. When we learned that thousands of families could lose access to their primary source of nutrition assistance, we knew we had to act. This is about more than a donation—it’s about neighbors helping neighbors and ensuring no one goes hungry while we wait for government services to be restored.”

Hanna Holliday, Community Development and CRA Officer, added:

“Moody Bank believes in the power of community resilience,” said Holliday. “Whenfamilies face uncertainty, it’s our responsibility to respond with compassion and action. By supporting local food banks, we’re helping ensure that no child, parent, or senior goes without the nourishment they need during this difficult time.”

Moody Bank encourages other local businesses and residents to support their area foodbanks, as the need for assistance continues to grow.

This initiative is one more example of The Power of the Palm—Moody Bank’s enduring promise to stand with our communities, uplift our neighbors, and lead with heart when it matters most.
